Make the Kidpower Protection Promise

Imagine the impact if all caring adults discussed this message with each child in their lives!

You are VERY important to me!
If you have a safety problem, I want to know – even if I seem too busy,
even if someone we care about will be upset,
even if it is embarrassing,
even if you promised not to tell, and
even if you made a mistake.
Please tell me, and I will do everything in my power to help you.”

Sample Script for your Promise Video:

Hi! I’m ____(Name)___. September is International Child Protection Month.

I am inspired by this global movement to empower young people and keeping them safe! One of the most important things we can do is to make sure that the young people in our lives know that we care about their safety through what we show them and what we tell them.

In honor of International Child Protection Month this September, I want to make the Kidpower Protection Promise to ___(the list or groups of young people in your life)_ – and to encourage each of you watching this video to do the same with all of the kids – and adults – who are important to you. Here goes:

YOU are VERY important to me. If you have a safety problem, I want to know – even if I seem too busy, even if someone we care about will be upset, even if it is embarrassing, even if you promised not to tell, and even if you made a mistake. Please tell me, and I will do everything in my power to help you!

Think of the impact if all young people believed that they could count on their adults to help! We can show them we care by being safe people to come to with their problems and by discussing this message with each of them.

Go to the website www.childprotectionmonth.ORG and you will find many resources, like posters of the Kidpower Protection Promise, the Put Safety First Commitment, and much more. Please join me in raising awareness and making sure kids know we care – in September, and all year round.
